Not going to lie, before I saw this trailer, I was pretty over Transformers. After the losses of Meghan Fox, then Shia Labeouf, followed up by Mark Wahlberg joining the mix?! It’s just a little much for me Michael Bay. But just like any good franchise, if things aren’t going well, let’s drop back and make a prequel. The new Bumblebee movie is set In 1987 California and stars singer Hailee Steinfeld as the lead, Charlie.

We also see John Cena, rocking a full head of hair, and teaming up with the Decepticons, at least in the trailer. I have two take away’s from the trailer. One- The movie is being directed by Travis Knight who’s known for his work on Kubo and the Two Strings, Boxtrolls, ParaNorman, and Coraline. These stop motion films saw great success, and I’m excited to see if his love for childhood nostalgia can carry over to Optimus Prime. Two- If you were a fan of the OG 1980’s toys, this is your movie. The Autobots and Decepticons have that 80’s plastic feel to them. The sites and sounds honor the original cartoon, and hopefully the soundtrack will as well. The new Bumblebee movie hits theaters December 2018.
