NETFLIX Subscription Price Is Going Up

Ugggh, more money going out when we were supposed to save money cutting the cord!

Netflix prices are going up why?
From CNBC:

The extra cash will help to pay for Netflix’s huge investment in original shows and films, and finance the heavy debt it’s taken on to ward off streaming threats from Amazon, Disney and Apple.

Fine…HOW MUCH ARE THEY GOING UP?

From Reuters:

Prices for its popular standard plan, which allows streaming on two devices at the same time, will be increased to $12.99 per month from $10.99, the company said in a statement.

The company’s top-tier plan, which allows streaming on four screens in high definition, will be raised to $15.99 from $13.99 per month, while fee for its basic plan will rise to $8.99 from $7.99. In comparison, Time Warner Inc’s HBO Now streaming service charges $14.99 per month, while Hulu’s no-advertisements plan is priced at $11.99/per month.

The price hikes will be applied to all existing members over the next few months and to all new members immediately.

Personally, I have three services now, NETFLIX, HULU LIVE (39.99 per month), and HBO. OK, technically I also have AMAZON PRIME, but that comes free with two day shipping. In the near future, all of these channels could have more or less than they do now because of company changes.

NBCUniversal, the media giant owned by Comcast, has plans to launch a streaming service next year. This year, streaming services are also expected from Apple, Disney, and Warner Media, the AT&T folks that own HBO and movies like Harry Potter and Wonder Woman. NBCU has long been streaming through Hulu, which is a service jointly owned by Comcast, Disney, Fox and Warner. Pending Disney’s takeover of Fox, Hulu is expected to come under Disney’s majority control later this year.

Stay tuned!
