Netflix just announced they have cut the graphic suicide scene from the first season of “13 Reasons Why” ahead of the release of the third season.

The new scene, which has been updated on Netflix, features Hannah looking at herself in the mirror before cutting to her parents’ reaction to her suicide. Viewers will no longer see the graphic scene, and Netflix has even gone as far as saying they will monitor for any other pirated clips that feature the original, unedited scene. The new clip is designed to carry the same emotional impact of Hannah’s death on the show.
Many teens say 13 Reasons Why encouraged them to have conversations about depression and suicide…do you think as many youth would have had these conversations if the original scene had NOT aired?

Suicide is the third leading cause of death for American youth between the ages of 10 and 24, resulting in about 4,600 deaths each year, according to the CDC.
