Variety exclusively reported that “Matrix 4” with original stars Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Ann Moss is on the way.
Lana Wachowski has written the script and will direct the new installment. Production is expected to begin in early 2020.

While the last installment of the original Matrix trilogy, The Matrix Revolutions, concluded in 2003, Keanu Reeves had reportedly hinted in 2011 at 4th and 5th installments. While Warner Bros. was reportedly interested throughout the entire process, rights issues held up development of the project. With Keanu’s recent and major-level successes, including a commercially and critically successful entry in the John Wickfranchise, the studio saw renewed potential for the Wachowski-penned film.

The original trilogy netted over $1.6 billion in box office earnings alone, and the original Matrix film is widely considered to be among the most influential action films in the new millennium. Currently, no plot details have been released in the new entry and it is unclear how Laurence Fishburne’s character ‘Morpheus’ will be addressed, if at all.
