New Jersey has finally done what 17 seasons of The Jersey Shore never could - it has wiped the smiles off resident's faces.

That's right - as hard as it is to believe, New Jersey has outlawed smiling!

The New Jersey Motor Vehicle commission released new driver's license guidelines that prohibit people from making exaggerated faces in their identification photos - and yes, that includes smiling. They say that doing so will impede facial recognition software's ability to tell who you are.

It sounds kind of crazy, but I guess I can see it. When you look at all of those futuristic movies and all of the imaginary software they use in cop shows, no one is smiling when their face is recognized by whatever retina scan or criminal imaging system is displaying their face.

If anything, I think this is actually a good thing. I believe that it's important to look as bad as you can on your ID photo (which Illinois makes frighteningly simple when they tell you to look near but not AT the lens.)

Think about it! When does your photo get used? When you are pulled-over or waiting to get into a bar. Either way, you want to look your best then and they are usually pretty stressful times! If you look amazing on your license, it's gonna be hard to look better in real life. BUT, if you look like crap on that tiny little image, it's gonna be harder to look more drunk (which is not a good look in either of the previously described situations.)
