Happy National Coming Out Day!

While I'm not a huge fan of mob-mentality or trying to use numbers to coerce people into doing things they aren't ready for, I still think this is an important day. Wether it's something you've done, something you have to do or something that doesn't apply to you, I think everyone can appreciate what a monumental task it is to have to reveal something so personal to the people close to them, and I think that it's nice to celebrate it each year.
Even if you are out already, this is still an important day from an organizational stand-point.
According to
the National Coming Out Day website, "with the election right around the corner, there’s no better time to send a message that you want your elected officials to come out in support of LGBT equality."
One of the great resources they include is a clickable map to help you find candidates that believe in equal rights for all Americans. If you're more the social networking type, you can connect with them through
the NCOD Facebook page.
Hopefully if you are on the cusp of being able to take this step in your life, the comfort of knowing that you are not alone - particularly on this day - will help get you over the hump. If so, let me be the first to congratulate you!
