Obama and Romney Trade Jokes At Fundraiser - Make Ray Wagner Laugh
6:22AM Friday
October 19, 2012

Last night, both candidates went out to a fundraiser that they turned into a roast of each other, and it was funny!

Romney opened by telling the wealthy, Christian audience what he thought tomorrow's headline would be; "Obama embraced by Catholics; Romney dines with rich people." He also said that it's important for both men to know that they have someone that they can always rely on in their life. Someone that is there for them no matter what... he said that he is of course referring to his wife, Ann and President Obama's rock, Bill Clinton.

President Obama was welcomed with a standing ovation, to which he responded; "Everyone, please take your seats -- otherwise Clint Eastwood will yell at them."

Obama also commented on how he was received as a candidate over seas versus how Mitt Romney was received in the same place; "Some of you guys remember, after my foreign trip in 2008, I was attacked as a celebrity because I was so popular with our allies overseas.  And I have to say, I'm impressed with how well Governor Romney has avoided that problem."

There is plenty more comedy if you are interested in this kind of debate, and I encourage you too look it up if you are, but I bring it up because in a weird way, the joint appearance gives me some hope.

Granted, none of this diminishes how awful, uninspiring and mean spirited the debates have been - but hopefully, it will. These men seem to genuinely lack respect for each other, but a lot of times, some joking around is just what a relationship needs to get moving.

I know that they will always disagree with each other pretty adamantly, but if they do it with the respect that the person they're attacking is just that A PERSON, maybe the tone of the whole thing can be just a bit better.
