Illinois Poised To Become 11th State To Legalize Recreational Marijuana

J.B. Prizker called for legalization or marijuana in his campaign for governor, and with a 66-47 vote, the Illinois House sent Pritzker another victory by voting to legalize recreational marijuana use.

This would allow those 21 and older to buy marijuana at licensed dispensaries in Illinois beginning next year. Residents could carry up to one ounce while non-residents could carry half of that.

This could also mean that past convictions for possession of 30 grams or less could be cleared. Chicago Democrat Kelly Cassidy says “it is time to hit the reset button on the War on Drugs.”

Employers would still be allowed to maintain a “zero tolerance” policy toward marijuana use and the workplace, and private property owners could restrict use as well.
