You Can Soon Use SNAP To Buy Groceries Online

Governor Pritzker announced that Illinois’ 1.8 million SNAP benefit recipients will now be able to buy groceries online.

SNAP is an acronym for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, which is the largest federal nutrition assistance program, offering benefits to eligible low-income individuals and families via an electronic benefits card called LINK . This card looks and works like a debit card in Illinois.

Unfortunately the LINK card was not set up for online and web purchasing of food, which became very common as we started to shelter at home due to Covid-19. Thankfully this is about to change.

The new purchasing option will begin on June 2nd. All Link customers will first be alerted when they can make use of their card to make food orders online.

Walmart and Amazon have agreed to accept online orders in Illinois once the program site launches.
