Earth Day 2024 Goal Is Plastic Usage

‘Planet vs. Plastics’ is the 2024 Earth Day Theme

Today (Monday, April 22nd) is Earth Day – and this year’s official theme is ‘Planet vs. Plastics’.

Organizers are looking to reduce the use of single-use plastic items by 60% by the year 2040.
They recommend using reusable straws, bags, and water bottles.

Other ways you can help the Earth? Using less water, carpooling, or using public transportation instead of driving.

From Earthday.org:

“Scientists believe that microplastics in our bodies may be responsible for everything from cancer to autism to Alzheimer’s to birth defects to falling fertility rates. We could save them a lot of time if the oil, gas, and plastics industries will tell us what they know.

EARTHDAY.ORG is unwavering in our commitment to end plastics for the sake of human and planetary health, demanding a 60% reduction in the production of ALL plastics by 2040. Our theme, Planet vs. Plastics, calls to advocate for widespread awareness on the health risk of plastics, rapidly phase out all single use plastics, urgently push for a strong UN Treaty on Plastic Pollution, and demand an end to fast fashion. Join us as we build a plastic-free planet for generations to come!”
