Friday was an incredible day in history as NASA astronauts Jessica Meir and Christina Koch were part of the first ever all female spacewalk!

NASA plans on sending the first woman to the Moon in 2024 as part of their Artemis missions. They have also unveiled the new spacesuits that will be worn by the first woman and next man to walk on the surface of the Moon.

The new pressurized suit is called the Exploration Extravehicular Mobility Unit, or xEMU for short, and includes a number of extra features to ensure the astronauts’ safety.

The spacesuits include dust-tolerant features that prevent inhalation or contamination of the suit’s life support system, and they were also built to withstand temperature extremes of minus 250 degrees Fahrenheit in the shade and up to 250 degrees in the sun.

In addition, they made sure the new suits were made for better mobility, which will allow the astronauts to move their arms more freely and lift objects over their heads.
