Throwback Thursday: Remember 2GETHER?

In the 60’s & 70’s we had the The Beatles, The Jackson’s, and The Monkees.

In the 80’s we had New Kids On The Block and Boyz II Men.

In The 90’s & 2000’s we had N’ Sync, The Backstreet Boys, 98 Degrees, O-Town, LFO, and Color Me Badd.

And now, we have One Direction and…well, do we have One Direction anymore?

I digress, in the middle of all of that, MTV introduced us to “2GETHER” or “2GE+HER”…remember “U+ME=US”?

PLEASE tell me someone else remembers this…

“2GETHER” was supposed to be a “fictional” boy band and the movie was supposed to be a satire of all the boy bands we had come to know and love at that time.

Funny thing is, people went CRAZY for them, and they actually released 2 albums AND the movie procuced a spin-off series on MTV. Yes, it was short-lived, but it happened. My sister and I can recite almost the whole movie, and somewhere in a box at my parents house there is a VHS tape that contains the recorded movie AND all 19 or 20 episodes of the TV series.

Luckily for you, the movie has been released on YouTube and you can watch the entire one hour and 22 minutes of it. You’re welcome.

2Gether Trivia Time, cuz yea I know stuff I probably shouldn’t…

  • Jason Q.T. McKnight, aka the Cute One, in real life known as Michael Cuccione, died 8 days after his 16th birthday. He had suffered from Cancer earlier in life, and while filming season 2 of the television series started having some complications which required him to use an oxygen tank on set. He had to miss several tapings, and following a minor car accident wound up in the hospital and suffered from Pneumonia before passing away in January of 2001.
  • The remaining 4 members of 2Gether were at his funeral, where David Hasselhoff ( I SWEAR!) gave the Eulogy and dedicated a special song.
  • I had a HUGE crush on Jerry O’Keefe, aka the heartthrob, in real life known as Evan Farmer. He actually filled in for Carson Daly on MTV’s TRL a few times, landed a small role in Austin Powers In Goldmember as Rob Lowe’s #2, and you may have noticed him hosting CMT’s weekly Top 20 Countdown (thanks to his time on TRL.)
  • If you watched the movie, you remember Doug Linus, aka the older brother, looking very familiar. That’s because his name is Kevin Farley in real life, and yes he is the younger brother of the late Chris Farley. He’s been able to have a ton of opportunities due to his Farley connections, thanks to David Spade and Adam Sandler, so I wouldn’t be surprised if you’ve seen him a time or 2 and thought, “Wait a minute, is that Chris Farley?”
  • Chad Linus, aka the Shy One, was actually my favorite on the show. He was just adorable and funny. His name is Noah Bastian and true story…I’m friends with him on facebook (I SWEAR!) He posts from time to time, and is very open about his struggles with drug addiction. In fact, he and his brother Tyler are currently participating in a documentary about his struggles. I know they were trying to get via a Kickstarter campaign, but haven’t heard about it in awhile. P.S. I think yesterday was his birthday.

So, what about a reunion?

Well, in 2011, the surviving members of 2gether announced they hoped to reunite for a concert in LA, and in early 2012 MTV gave the group the greenlight to begin production on a reunion mockumentary/movie. However, MTV hasn’t released the movie or decided when it will air, if ever. Cool thing is if it ever happens, a large portion of the proceeds will go to the Michael Cuccione Foundation.

At this point, I fear I’ve said too much. I know entirely too much about the band, group, fictional characters, and their real lives.

I leave you with their second smash single…”Say It, Don’t Spray It.”
