How Long Should Your Nap Be?

You’ve probably heard the pros and cons of napping over the years. The latest information from a sleep doctor gives more to sleep on.

Rafael Pelayo, MD, is a professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at the Stanford Center For Sleep Sciences and Medicine. He says 20 to 40 minutes is perfect for a nap.

Pelayo also said, “It’s not that napping is good or bad. It’s the context within which the nap is done.”

He said the desire to take a nap is natural. Pelayo continued, “I think we’re biologically set up to have the flexibility of catching a nap. Our body allows this.”
