Maggie Gyllenhaal is making her directorial debut with ‘The Bride’

Maggie Gyllenhaal gave us a lot to talk about when she posted just three photos on INSTAGRAM teasing her upcoming movie ” THE BRIDE”.

First, the titular role photo of Jesse Buckley is stunning and more realistic than previous incarnations of the character.

According to Variety, The Bride is a unique twist on Mary Shelley’s horror classic. It’s “set in 1930s Chicago” where “Buckley’s murdered young woman is revived, but her new life surprises her creators as she lusts for romance and ignites a radical social movement.”

That plot description explains quickly that this movie is not going to be directly based on Shelley’s Frankenstein, but it does tells a similar story of a dead woman who is brought back to life by a mad scientist.

The cast is All-star, including Penelope Cruz, Annette Bening, and Peter Sarsgaard. But, you can’t have a bride without a groom, and that means somebody has to take on the look and feel of Frankenstein. And for that role, they went for an actor known for his physical transformations and dedication to characters.

Gyllenhaal’s The Bride is scheduled to open in theaters on October 2, 2025. And it will have some competition!

Guillermo del Toro is currently making his own Frankenstein movie. His features Priscilla’s Jacob Elordi as Frankenstein’s Monster and also stars Oscar Isaac and Mia Goth. I will happily see both!
